Timeline
2010, The first multi-rotor is built
This was the time when everything was still unknown. Building a 6 rotor “+” configuration platform, that had one of the arms directly above the camera, which signifies the very early stage of multirotor design. Only later a “Y” option became available for hexacopter platforms, making things much easier, especially for filming.
The single-servo gimbal you see in the picture is actually a pricey piece of equipment. It used to cost $699 from manufacturers in Germany, and the gimbal was made out of CNC-cut bits of carbon-infused fiberglass. The gimbal would carry a SONY NEX camera, although that did not mean you could take pictures right away- things like picture “Jell-o” were a thing from hell, resulting in restless nights balancing the already pre-balanced “Graupner” propellers in hopes that it will solve the persistent problems. It’s something you would not pay $20 for today. Things have moved forward so much since then.
2011, First ever aerial photo in GoPro History
Yep – that was me 🙂
At this point the GoPro was the second camera to be mounted on the mighty single servo gimbal in order to simply see what would happen. Upon taking a closer look at the photos, I realized I really like the “fisheye” look of the GoPro and decided to send it over to GoPro. Once they posted the photo, I checked all of the photos before mine and was able to confirm that this really is their first ever GoPro to be taken to skies by drone.

2014, First Heavy-Lift drone with a cinema camera
This was a special year mainly because a company trusted me to fly their heavy lifter drone, carrying a RED Mysterium-X camera with a Tokina lens on it. Although this sounds as a “poor man’s” camera set up, for me this was a huge step forward, opening up new horizons in heavy-class drone piloting.
2018, Achieving a national record
On February 16th, everyone raised Lithuania’s national flag to commemorate the 100th anniversary of restored Lithuanian independence. In order to stand out, I decided to take the flag to new heights and flew it to 500 meters, held it there for 5 minutes and after the witnesses confirmed with signatures- the record was set for taking a national flag the highest.
2018, Receiving a national flag from the President
President of Lithuania noticed the aforementioned efforts and an invitation to the presidential house was received. Upon arrival, a ceremony took place and my flag initiative was awarded with a kind handshake from the President herself along with the national flag.
2018-2019, Representing Choppershoot
Choppershoot is the biggest drone company in the middle east, growing at a rapid rate. During the time with Choppershoot I was responsible for flying all available platforms on set as well as overseeing the projects I was flying in.
